August in Tahoe: Start planning your vacation here!

The best month of the year to visit Lake Tahoe?  It just might be August!

We don't want the other months to get jealous, but August is our absolute favorite time to experience summer in Lake Tahoe. The crowds have thinned a bit, the weather is still near perfect, and the lake temperatures have warmed up for the best swimming of the year, hands down. Here are some of our favorite ways to spend the month all around the lake.

Start your day early on the lake (and trust us, it's worth it!)

If you're up for an early alarm on vacation, wake up before sunrise for a ride with Lake Tahoe Balloons. It's a spectacular way to see Lake Tahoe from an entirely different vantage point, and it's absolutely worth it.

If early rising isn't your thing, we can think of no better place to have a lazy morning than The Mountain Haus. We'll provide the fresh bag of Drink Coffee Do Stuff beans, you grab the breakfast fixings of your choice, and you spend the morning relaxing with great company. When you're fueled up and ready to explore, Tahoe will be waiting.

Get outside with the family

After a great morning, head down to Ski Run Park with the whole family to get some serious play in. This community park is loaded with fun for the little ones, including swings, a major climbing web, and a rock climbing wall great for all ages.

In the spirit of relaxing, we love recommending doing nothing more than doing nothing while on vacation at Lake Tahoe. Grab your flip flops, a beach chair, and your favorite cold drink, and head down to Skylandia Beach in Tahoe City to take in all its beauty.

There's a more whimsical side of Lake Tahoe, too. On the path through the forest on the way to Skylandia, you'll find a little gnome lair with a special message: leave a gift and take a gift. The kids love it, and so do we.

For the adventure seekers in your group, a climb at Castle Rock belongs on your August itinerary. This classic climbing rock has routes for all skill levels and stays pleasantly cool at its higher elevation, even on warm August days.

Where to stay

Feeling like getting together with the girls in Tahoe this August? We've got the spot for that. The Mountain Haus has the best big-deck energy, a spacious chef's kitchen, and five king beds, so no one's fighting over the sleeping arrangements. It's just minutes to town and all of these great Tahoe experiences, too.

On the water and around town

Grab your crew and charter a pontoon boat (or three) and live a Tahoe day like no other with The Tahoe Experience. This is Lake Tahoe's ultimate boat tour. You'll set sail from Tahoe Keys Marina for a private, captained tour with all the fun lake toys and none of the stress of driving. This cannot be missed.

Taste of Tahoe Tours is a new way to experience the culinary scene in South Lake Tahoe. Chef Bryan created the company to highlight some of the best Tahoe restaurants, founded on a simple belief: the best way to experience a destination is through its food and the stories behind it.

After touring several great restaurants, keep the day going by strolling all the shops and businesses at Heavenly Village. There's no shortage of things to do here, but we love the people watching, sitting by the firepits at Fire + Ice Grill & Bar, and playing a round at Tipsy Putt.

We love a great farmers market, and Tahoe is no exception. You'll find several around the basin, but our favorite of the week is the Ski Run Farmers Market on Fridays on Ski Run Blvd in South Lake Tahoe. There are tons of local makers, produce vendors, and activities for the entire family.

Tahoe is best seen on two wheels, and there's no better way to do so than with a rental from Tahoe Bike Company. Conveniently located in the middle of town, they've got wheels for the entire family. We recommend grabbing a coffee, drink, or sweet treat at Paddle House Brews or Three Pines Coffee afterward.
