How to have the best September in Tahoe

Summer Lake Tahoe Best Of Tahoe South Lake Tahoe Activities

September is a special time of year in Tahoe: the crowds have thinned out, the kids have gone back to school, yet the weather stays perfect nearly all year round. Come along with us to experience some of our favorite activities during "locals summer" (but you're invited too!)

⛵️Sail Tahoe Blue. September is a perfect time to get out on the water, and our pick this month is sailing trip with Sail Tahoe Blue. With public and private charters, this locally run company aims to please by making your time on the water easy, welcoming, and most of all, memorable. Their crew knows the lake inside and out, so even a first-time sailor ends up feeling like a regular by the time you're back at the dock.

💙 Artemis on the Lake. The best Greek food, amazing music, and a special setting make Artemis Lakefront Cafe one of our favorite spots to send guests for a lakeside meal. Tucked into Ski Run Marina, the patio puts you right on the water with views that rival any restaurant in town. Go for an early dinner and you'll catch the golden hour light bouncing off the lake while you work through a plate of fresh Mediterranean classics

🏌🏻‍♂️ Stingers. Part golf lounge, part cheers, and part amazing bistro, this new kid in town delivers on all levels. Say hi to the owners Randy and Scott for us, you'll often see them there! Stingers Golf Lounge pairs simulator bays with a full bar and dinner menu, so it's an easy pick whether you're chasing a round of golf, watching a game, or just looking for a fun night out with the group.

🍷🍷 Idle Hour. This is THE spot to watch the sun go down over Lake Tahoe. Grab a charcuterie board, your favorite libation, and a seat on the patio to catch the best of golden hour. The Idle Hour built its reputation on an excellent wine list and a lakefront view, so plan to arrive a little before sunset and let the evening slow down from there.

🧘🏻‍♀️ Reset at Sierra Sauna House. Our newest vacation rental home has quickly become a guest favorite, and for good reason. Don't want to decide between a sauna or a hot tub on your vacation? Don't worry, you don't have to, we have both. Between the private sauna, the hot tub, and the quiet South Lake Tahoe neighborhood it sits in, it's built for exactly the kind of slow, wellness-focused trip September calls for. Book Sierra Sauna House direct for the best rate on your stay.

🧑🏼‍🍳 Hire a private chef. What's fun about cooking while on vacation? Nothing! That's where Chef Arica of Yummy Fixin's comes in. She's known for her amazing charcuterie, private chef services, and healthy meal prep, and with September being a slower month, she might just have an opening for you. Have her cook for the whole family at The Tahoe Lodge, one of our favorite kitchens to hand off to someone else for the night.

🧗🏽‍♀️ Climb Lovers Leap. The iconic Tahoe climbing spot. Check out our favorite pitches: East Wall, Hay Stack, Bears Reach, and Corrugation Corner. If you want to avoid crowds, head over to Its Better With Bacon instead. Lovers Leap has been drawing climbers for decades thanks to its solid granite and routes for nearly every skill level, so it's worth a stop whether you're leading your first multi pitch or just there to belay and watch.

🚵‍♂️ Mountain biking. The temperatures have cooled down and the crowds have dispersed, making for a perfect day out on the dirt. We love to recommend the Sting Tiki trail, coined by one of our owners, for its mix of flow and views without the summer crowds. September's cooler mornings and thinned out trail traffic make it one of the best windows of the year to ride.

🌅 Divided Sky. After a long bike ride, hike, or climb, Divided Sky is THE place to go to refuel. We love their sandwiches, appetizer platters, and margaritas. This laid back spot in the little town of Meyers often has live music going too, so don't be surprised if your quick bite turns into a full evening.

🐶 Walk to Fallen Leaf Lake. Walk along the shores of Fallen Leaf Lake with the pups. This is one of our favorite lakes in the Tahoe Basin, and you'll love the stunning views of Mount Tallac and the rocky shoreline. It's quieter and less crowded than the main lake, which makes it an easy, low key outing on a morning when you'd rather stroll than plan a whole day around it.

We hope we are able to welcome you to Tahoe this September-its the best time of year!
