The Best Happy Hours in South Lake Tahoe This Spring

Spring in Tahoe is that magical in-between season — ski runs are softening, the days are getting longer, and the lake is shimmering in that unmistakable deep blue again. It's the perfect time to pull up a bar stool, watch the light fade over the Sierras, and take advantage of some genuinely great deals. And when we say "happy hour" around here, we don't just mean drinks! Think half-price appetizers, food specials that make an entire meal, and views that make every sip taste a little better.

Riva Grill on the Lake — The Classic

900 Ski Run Blvd, South Lake Tahoe | Mon–Fri 4–6 PM

If there's one happy hour that defines South Lake Tahoe, it's Riva Grill. Perched right on the water at Ski Run Marina, this lakefront institution has been drawing crowds since 1998 — and for good reason. The 3,000-square-foot deck overlooking Lake Tahoe is as good as outdoor dining gets, and in spring, when the snow is still capping the peaks but the afternoon sun is warm on your face, there's nowhere better to be.

The Deal: Drink specials discounted off appetizers, Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 PM. Lake views available all day long!

What to Order: The food is the real story here. The Dungeness Crab Cakes with black bean and corn pico de gallo, Ahi Poke Stack with sesame-marinated tuna and mango-ginger relish, and Deviled Eggs with white truffle oil and Tobiko are among the appetizers that make this happy hour one of Tahoe's best-kept open secrets. The fish tacos with apple-jicama slaw are another perennial crowd favorite.

The Vibe: Lively and social, with live acoustic music on Friday and Saturday evenings. This is the spot if you want energy, a crowd, and a front-row seat to one of Tahoe's most iconic sunset views.

Brooks' Bar & Deck at Edgewood Tahoe — The Upscale Escape

180 Lake Pkwy, Stateline, NV | Mon–Fri 3–5 PM

Just over the Nevada stateline, Brooks' Bar & Deck sits on the grounds of the legendary Edgewood Tahoe Resort — a Frank Gehry–designed building perched alongside the resort's famous 18th hole. Golf Digest has named it one of the best golf pubs in the world, and even if you've never swung a club, you'll immediately understand why.

The Deal: Half off all beer, specialty cocktails, and appetizers every weekday from 3 to 5 PM. It's a genuinely generous deal given the quality of what's coming out of that kitchen. On Fridays, stick around for the Sunset Dinner Menu — a three-course experience for $60 available from 5 to 6 PM.

What to Order: The Ahi Thimble Stack (marinated yellowfin tuna with yuzu cream, crispy wontons, and citrus soy glaze) is a happy hour standout, as are the spiced Buffalo Wings and the Gochujang Cauliflower — crispy, punchy, and surprisingly addictive. For something more substantial, the Braised Short Rib Loaded Fries are worth every penny at half price. The Slow Roasted Rib Eye French Dip and the Beer Battered Salmon Fish & Chips are crowd favorites that make happy hour feel like a full meal.

The Drinks: Half-off all specialty cocktails and beer. Opt for a local brew, or try one of the Brooks Bar classic: the Mojo Mojito or their famous Bloody Mary's

The Vibe: Elevated but unpretentious. Sky-high windows frame golf course greens and peek-a-boo views of the lake. This is the happy hour to impress a date or treat yourself after a day on the slopes.

Chart House — Sunset Views & Serious Seafood

392 Kingsbury Grade, Stateline, NV | Sun–Fri 4–6 PM

Clinging to a cliffside above the South Shore, Chart House offers what might be the single most dramatic happy hour view in the entire Lake Tahoe Basin. The dining room feels like it's floating over the treetops, with Big Blue stretching out in every direction below you.

The Deal: Happy hour runs Sunday through Friday from 4 to 6 PM, with both food and drink specials. $6 wine pours, $5 well spirits, and a rotating cast of discounted appetizers.

What to Order: This is where serious seafood fans come to play. The Seared Ahi Nachos, Prime Rib Sliders, Lobster Tartare, Kim Chee Calamari, and Crispy Buffalo Chicken are all on the happy hour rotation.

Don't Miss: The famous Hot Chocolate Lava Cake isn't technically a happy hour item, but ordering it while still catching the tail end of that golden-hour view is one of Tahoe's great dining pleasures.

The Vibe: Perfect for mingling!  Chart House has been a Tahoe institution for decades, and its happy hour draws both special-occasion visitors and locals who know a good deal when they see one.

The Idle Hour Lakefront Wine Bar — Tahoe's Best-Kept Secret

3351 Lake Tahoe Blvd, Suite 6, South Lake Tahoe | Mon–Fri, Two Happy Hours daily!

Most people have never heard of The Idle Hour. The locals who have? They'd prefer to keep it that way. South Lake Tahoe's only dedicated lakefront wine bar, this intimate gem is literally perched over the water — a panoramic deck hanging above Lake Tahoe, fire pits for chilly spring evenings, and soft afternoon light that makes everything look like a painting.

The Deal: Monday through Friday, select wines (sparkling, white, and red) are $10 a glass, beers are $5, and small plates — shrimp cocktail, spinach artichoke dip, butter leaf wedge salad, traditional pinsa — are $10. The bar earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2024, and the rotating lineup of boutique California producers and imported bottles reflects that.

The Vibe: Unhurried, romantic, and genuinely unlike anything else on the South Shore. On Fridays and Saturdays, live piano music runs from 6 to 8 PM — making it easy to let happy hour drift into evening. The deck is also dog-friendly, and if you snag a seat right over the water, you may not want to leave.

A Few More Worth Knowing About

Kalani's at Heavenly Village draws a loyal happy hour crowd to its Puka Lounge, Monday through Friday from 5 to 6 PM. Draft beers, well drinks, sake, and Pacific Rim–inspired bar bites — Heavenly sushi rolls, fried ahi, and Kahlua pig quesadillas — all at reduced prices. It's a natural stop before catching live music or a show in the Village.

McP's Taphouse, right in the heart of Heavenly Village, is the 40-tap beer lover's paradise, with weekday happy hour from 3 to 5 PM and enough pours to keep you busy

Elements Eatery & Bar — The New Kid on the Block, located at the corner of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Fremont Avenue — right across from the lake — this American-Latin fusion spot brings handmade tortillas, bold flavors, and a genuinely fresh point of view to the South Shore dining scene. The Al Pastor tacos and house-made margaritas are amazing!

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Spring Happy Hour in Tahoe

Spring is a transitional, locals-favorite season in South Lake Tahoe. The ski crowds have thinned, the patio heaters are still running, and the views are at their most dramatic — snowcapped peaks reflected in that impossibly blue water. Here's how to make the most of it:

Go early in the week. Weekday happy hours at spots like Riva and Brooks' are significantly less crowded than weekends, and service is much more attentive.

Combine happy hour with a sunset. All of the restaurants above face west or have lake views. Arrive 30–45 minutes before sunset and you'll catch the light turning the Sierras pink and gold.

Bring a layer. Spring evenings in Tahoe can cool off quickly. Even the best deck view loses its charm when you're shivering into your cocktail.

Don't overlook the food. At every spot on this list, the happy hour food specials are worth building your evening around — not just an afterthought. Half-price crab cakes, ahi stacks, and prime rib sliders are deals that deserve your full attention.

Check hours before you go. Spring schedules in Tahoe can shift as restaurants transition from ski season to summer mode. A quick call or website check before you head out is always worth it.

Don't forget! If you feel like staying in, some if the best happy hours can be had any time of day at any of our homes in The Tahoe Collection.
